Similarly to my vocal practice, my drawings stem from the desire to improvise; to create unfiltered, lucid and meandering utterances. The speed that I can ‘edit out’, hide or keep gestures is quick in most mediums. However drawing is largely unaffected by this desire to conceal and what’s revealed is often something subvocal, unspeakable or previously unknowable. The exciting tension lies in my suspension of the need to understand the drawings immediately and a substantial part of my drawing practice being the communication of logics, making plans for myself / technicians, diagrams for the structure of a film, instructions for a later assembling of a sculpture. Drawing is in service of my wider practice and dictates the logic underpinning these mediums. I’m interested in how these technical drawings can be in closer proximity to the improvisatory drawings. samramayanja@gmail.com
